Baby A at almost 8 months

This little one was such a trooper. We had tried a couple of weeks before to get in her 7-month pictures but she wasn't feeling too great so we re-scheduled. I'm so glad we did because she cooperated really well in spite of the fact that she was ready for a morning nap.

Her yawns here show exactly what she was feeling. She humored her mother and me anyway and let us get in some fun shots.

Thanks Baby A! I can't wait for your one-year shots in a couple of months!

What is Lifestyle Photography?

For the past almost 3 years I have been doing photography and trying to explain to people my style. I've never had the right word for it until now. I would say that it's "natural, fun or whimsical", but I have since learned that what it really is is "lifestyle." That word makes so much sense to me. Your life and your style captured your way. In your home, on your couch, your baby in their nursery, outside in your yard. You get the picture.

Lifestyle photography aims to portray real-life situations in a controlled setting. Bright, natural light that is airy and organic. The great thing about lifestyle is that there are no boundaries and it can be done regardless of weather or lack of props. This is who I am and this is what I do. I look forward to capturing your life soon.

The Ever Adorable Baby C

Baby C's 6-month pictures could not have come on a more beautiful January day. With temps in the high 60's we were not only able to capture her cute personality indoors but outdoors as well.

She was having so much fun chewing on the foam hearts that she decided to try the rose petals as well. After all, isn't that what babies do? Everything must go in the mouth! However, the rose petals were not as tasty as the foam hearts, as she would quickly learn. With a hint of rose scent and some nice die, they made for a not-so-tasty treat.

This next grouping of pictures was when her daddy came home. So sweet to see her eyes light up when she saw him and he started talking to her. I think they may have a "daddy's girl" on their hands. My heart stopped when I was editing these and saw the one with her hand over her heart.

And, of course, miss kitty had to get in on the action. I guess she figured that since her collar was pink that she automatically would get to be part of the shoot. She was right.

Some of these faces were quite funny. She was getting a bit tired and gave us some cute looks.

It's been a couple of years since I did a family in the snow and had been dying to do it again. We were given the perfect day for this particular session. Almost 40 degrees, sunshine and no wind. Here in Nebraska, there is rarely a day without wind. It turned out beautiful.

Stuhr Museum

If you have the time and can withstand the cold, I highly recommend going to the Stuhr Museum Chrismas Past and Present. A very enjoyable evening taking a trip back in time and enjoying the Christmas' of long ago.

This family was so much fun to shoot. I love when parents just let their kids be who they are. It makes photography more pleasant and you generally get better shots. These 2 little girls were absolutely adorable and fun to work with. It took them a while to warm up to me but once they did it was all fun and games. Thanks for a great shoot Bilka's!

Trying to get a shot of a toddler and a 4-year-old together, in the same picture, next to each other, at the same time (you get the idea), is very challenging. This brother/sister duo were like two ships passing in the night. I really wasn't quite sure if I got anything of them together and was very pleased when I found that I at least got a couple. They are both so stinking cute that it really didn't matter much.

I always get excited when I am going to do a session with little ones. That's where my heart truly is. However, for this session I was excited from the minute the planning started. This would be a session like no other in my history (3 years of shooting). Everything leading up to this day was taking me back to my early childhood and to my girls when they were little. I wish I could have them that age again. Nothing screamed girl more than this day. Milk and cookies with pretty sprinkles. Candy under a pink tent. A tea party with dollies. Pink, pink and more pink! That's what little girls are made of. Thanks for the fun girls!

My sweet, delicious niece came out from Omaha special so that I could capture her 6-month pictures. Only she came a month late and we got her 7-month pictures. Or maybe she was early and they are 8-month pictures.

When I photograph babies and small children, I often wonder what is going through their little minds when I and their mother (sometimes many others) are standing in front of them making noises with our mouths, clapping hands, hollering out their name and making silly faces. Some of these looks below make me think that I'm a bit crazy. I know what my niece was thinking, "oh, that's my CRAZY aunt that everyone keeps warning me about."

I love my boys more than anything, but attempting a photo shoot with them anymore is like pulling teeth. They have both always reminded me of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. One leads the other into uncharted territory. If you know my boys, I'll let you decide who is who. Thankfully, I was able to get some decent shots in between climbing, jumping and playing with dead frogs. Then it just became too much for all of us and I gave up and let them be boys. That's when I got some fun shots. I actually got some of the dead frog that they pulled from the water with a stick, but I thought I would spare you those. Not pretty.

I never grow weary of photographing babies. Their sweetness and innocence is something that just sucks me right in. Whenever I get a call for a newborn or infant photoshoot I get all giddy inside.

Just One More Makes Boy # 4!

I had the pleasure of photographing my friend's new 10-day-old baby yesterday. I was unable to get to the hospital when he was born so I had to wait a few days longer. It was excruciating!

I couldn't decide if I was the photographer or the snuggler. I wanted so badly to do both. I got in a bit less snuggling than I would like, but there is more of that to come. I had a job to do! He was so cooperative and sweet and didn't make a fuss until the very end. Thank you sweet boy.

Cousins~Growing up together
Coming from quite a large family, my sister and I know the importance of growing up with your cousins. Unfortunately, the 12 of them ever being together in one place is highly unlikely. With 5 in Indiana, 3 in Iowa and 4 in Nebraska, it would be easier to move a mountain. My sister and I, being the only girls of 6 children, make sure that at least our 6 get together every chance possible. That also means a photo shoot whenever time permits. We have done a few over the years but this one, by far, was the most fun for me. It was also the most challenging. Never give any child chocolate milk and cookies (and lots of both) if you expect any cooperation, what-so-ever, from any of them. They were having so much fun, I just kept the camera rolling. (The girls holding hands-that was all them. They just love each other.)

Doll houses and lady bugs~
How sweet it is to watch little girls playing dolls. Even when the doll house is more than 30 years old. There is no end time to imagination and little girls are the same now as they have always been.
